SPORTS MASSAGE THERAPY
SPORTS MASSAGE
Sports massage is mainly aimed at those who suffer muscle tightness and pain, have any aches or pains, or have any musculoskeletal injuries/conditions regardless of being involved within sports or exercise. There is often a misconception that you have to partake in lots of sports and exercise to receive a sports massage, but this is not true! Emma uses lots of different massage and manual therapy techniques to suit the individual as treatment is not a “one size fits all” approach.

Sports massage can also help with the recovery of sports-specific injuries and the management of symptoms for chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia.

Sports Massage is not suitable for a "relaxation massage".

CUPPING
(Can be included with any massage appointment with no extra cost)

Cupping helps to reduce tightness & tension in the muscles by its decompression effect which is not possible with standard massage techniques. This decompression allows the increased blood flow from the massage to enter the muscles and allows for a better recovery.

Emma uses 3 different types of cupping which all have their individual uses. There is traditional dry cupping, Rockpod cupping which are silicone cups, and the Rockpod glide cups. The Rockpod glide cups do not stay in one place on the skin which means these are perfect for if you want the benefits of cupping without any marks left on your skin. The type of cupping I use will be suited to what is best for you and your treatment, along with your personal preference. Everything will be fully explained at your appointment if you are interested in cupping.

This treatment can leave marks on the skin depending on the type of cups used which fade over the course of a few days up to 2 weeks.

(Most of Emma's clients find their cup marks have faded after 1 week)
The main aims of taping is to support the injured area, decrease pain levels and increase the ease of movement.

The tape has a lifting effect which is how the tape itself works to reduce pain & inflammation.

Kinesiology taping can be used for more minor injuries/aches & pains whereas heavy duty sports taping can be used to help recover from more serious injuries such as an ACL tear (knee) or a severe ankle sprain.
Tape can last approximately 2-5 days. The longevity of the tape can rely heavily on lifestyle factors.

Taping can be included with a sports massage session when suitable.

(Please note: tape may not adhere as well if massage lotion has been applied to the affected area, or if body hair is present).

ROCKBLADES
Rockblades are massage tools that Emma likes to use during most sessions. As well as helping her to prevent injury to her wrists and hands from all the massaging, here's how they can help you:

-
Rockblades help to influence the nervous system
-
There are multiple techniques that can be used with these which can help to increase range of motion, promote mobility & improve motor control
-
Emma can carefully work over any sore bony areas to help with pain relief (such as the spine or over the knee/patella tendon.
-
The rock blade can be used to enhance regular massage techniques, such as helping to stretch out the muscles (pin & stretch technique).
-
Emma can scan the tissue with this tool, meaning she can feel any extra niggles and areas of tightness that she may not be able to feel as easily with her hands.
Most importantly, the Rockblades may look like they hurt but it feels very similar to a normal sports massage! Some clients even describe it as having more of a therapeutic effect.

Emma will suggest using this if suitable. If you would like to try this, ask Emma during your appointment.
